In fact, it is quite good. Most people will remember it for "Island Girl" (a lightweight but fun number one hit) and maybe "Grow Some Funk Of Your Own" (a song that briefly showed its face in the Top 20, reaching # 14), both of which are great songs. But this album is, like all other Elton John albums, loaded with some hiddeng gems/5().

The ballsy no-nonsense "Street Kids" and the aggressive gringo rock of the ZZ Top sound-alike "Grown Some Funk of Your Own" contrast with the poignant power balladry of "I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford)" or the dark and brooding tale of addiction on "Feed Me." Perhaps inspired by the crossover R&B appeal of "Philadelphia Freedom 7/

Rock of the Westies is mostly high-energy rock & roll produced by Gus Dudgeon with characteristic gloss. Though the personnel in John’s band have changed somewhat, Dudgeon and John .

In his five-decade career Elton John has sold more than million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. He has more than fifty Top 40 hits, including seven consecutive No. 1 US albums, 58 Billboard Top 40 singles, 27 Top 10, four No. 2 and nine No. 1.

The overall feel is a bit too calculated to live up to John's prior classic rockers, but its blend of slick craftsmanship and good cheer makes it tough to dismiss. "Grow Some Funk of Your Own" became a Top 20 hit in and remains a vivid reminder of when periodic bursts of hard rock could be found on an Elton John album.
